About Rimba Raya
Rimba Raya was founded in Medan in 2014 on one conviction: buyers abroad deserve to know which farm their coffee comes from, and farmers deserve to be paid for the quality they grow.
Our story
In twelve years at a large trading house, our founder watched the best Gayo coffee disappear into middlemen's warehouses — while its farmers never learned what a roaster in Hamburg paid for it.
Rimba Raya's first container left for Hamburg in 2014: 320 bags of Gayo semi-washed from two cooperatives. Today we work with nine cooperatives in Gayo, Kerinci, and Banda, process in our own dry mill in Medan, and ship to 14 countries.
We have stayed small on purpose. Every lot is cupped by our own quality team, every buyer has one contact who knows their contract, and every partner farmer is on record by name and farm polygon.
