EUDR: the traceability data we send with every lot

The EU Deforestation Regulation requires importers to prove origin down to the farm. Here is the Rimba Raya traceability sheet, field by field.

The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires coffee importers in the EU to carry out due diligence: proving that the coffee they place on the market does not come from land cleared after 31 December 2020, and was produced legally in its country of origin.

For roasters, the question is simple: what data can my supplier give me? Since 2024, every Rimba Raya lot — coffee and spices alike — ships with a traceability sheet. Here is what it contains:

1. Lot code

Every bag carries a code like RR-GY-2511-K04-0417: exporter, origin, harvest year and month, cooperative, and bag number. The code links a bag in your warehouse to the data below.

2. Cooperative and washing station

The cooperative’s name, its legal registration number, and the location of the washing station where the cherries were processed.

3. Farm polygons

For every farm contributing to the lot: a boundary polygon with GPS coordinates (GeoJSON), the area, and the farmer’s name in anonymised form. Farms under 4 hectares come with a single geolocation point, as the EUDR allows.

Polygons are mapped by our field team with handheld GPS, then cross-checked against 2020 forest-cover satellite imagery.

4. Harvest dates and processing

The harvest date range, the processing method (wet-hulled, fully washed, natural, or honey), and the date the lot entered the dry mill.

5. Legality documents

Proof of land legality or a village certificate, plus a supplier compliance declaration.

How the data is delivered

The traceability sheet travels with the shipping documents as a PDF and a GeoJSON file, ready to upload into the importer’s EUDR information system.
